Maintenance and Light Repair
Class overview
Maintenance and Light Repair I - Typically a freshman class which is an introduction to basic automotive knowledge. Students will be expected to pass a written safety test (the safety test has to be passed each year) and cover 4 chapters of book work before having access to the automotive shop. Topics covered in the book work will be hand tools, power tools, preventive maintenance, and wheels & tires.

Maintenance and Light Repair II - Second year of MLR concentrates more on brakes. Daily grades will come from on line work done through our CDX Learning program. After completion of the homework assignment and any discussion in class, (after sucessfully passing the safety test) students will get hands on experience with the project of the day in the automotive shop.

Maintenance and Light Repair III & IV - Third and fourth year MLR students are usually taught during the same class time. Junior and Senior daily grades also come from our on line CDX Learning program, but differ depending on which year the student is currently enrolled. Third year students study Steering and Suspension, while fourth year students study Engine Repair or Engine Performance. After completion of the homework assignment and any discussion in class, (after sucessfully passing the safety test) students will get hands on experience with the project of the day in the automotive shop.

Personal Finance
Class overview
Personal Finance - Personal Finance is a half year class where students will learn to manage money, banking products and services, keep track of and reconcile a checking account, steps in buying a car or house, the importance of and different types of insurances, types of and importance of investment opportunities, consumer rights and making informed decisions, borrowing basics, debt and bankruptcy, and how to retire a millionaire. Basically, every day of your life you will make some type of personal financial decision. This class may not force you to always make the correct decisions, but you will be able to make informed decisions.

About me
My name is David Baker and I am a Maintenance & Light Repair and Personal Finance teacher, a football and baseball coach, and a bus driver for the Smith County School System. I am also a husband to my beautiful wife, Mary Baker, and father to four wonderful children: Luke, Bradi, Kameran, and Bill. I am a 1989 graduate of Gordonsville High School, where I played football and baseball. I graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1994 with a Bachelor's of Science in Aerospace Administration with a minor in Psychology. After graduation, I worked at Bonnell Aluminum, YRC Transportation, and Cumberland International before owning a trucking company with my wife. During this time, I attended Nashville Auto-Diesel College and graduated with my Diesel Technician certification in February of 2011. Almost two years later, in January of 2013, I began my teaching career at Gordonsville High School and have been there since.
