Agriculture Classes

Smith County High School offers Animal System and Plant System pathways in agriculture classes. All classes are Career Technical Education (CTE) classes that have an emphasis on hands-on learning and career/technical preparation. The agriculture pathway is structured by a 3 system model of Classroom Instruction, Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE), and FFA. The model works with independent and overlap work of each area to allow students to reach their full potential inside and outside of the classroom. Several agriculture courses offered are Local Dual Credit courses in partnership with Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). Each pathway offers at least one certification that meets industry standards for preparing students for college and career success.

Chemistry Class

Smith County High School offers Chemistry as the sophomore level science class. Chemistry is a physical and natural science, connecting physics with other fields such as biology and geology. It focuses on the study of matter, its properties, how and why substances combine or separate, and how they interact with energy. Students learning will focus on the how and why, solving equations, developing a quality understanding of the Periodic Table, and reinforcing learning through laboratory discovery.
