Special Education Department
Welcome to Special Education Services at Smith County High School! Our classroom is dedicated to providing students with the individualized support they need to achieve success academically, socially, and behaviorally. Through collaboration with general education teachers, we help students build confidence, strengthen essential skills, and work toward their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
Support is provided through inclusion classrooms, small-group instruction, and individualized assistance based on each student's unique needs. Our goal is to foster a positive, respectful, and encouraging learning environment where every student has the opportunity to grow, become more independent, and reach their full potential.
We look forward to partnering with students, families, and staff to ensure every student is supported and successful throughout the school year.
Hello! My name is Connor Hughes, and I am a Special Education Paraprofessional at Smith County High School. I am proud to be serving the same school where I graduated as a member of the Class of 2024.
I recently graduated from Cumberland University with an Associate of Arts degree and am currently pursuing my bachelor's degree in education. After earning my bachelor's degree, my goal is to become an Elementary Comprehensive Development Classroom (CDC) teacher, where I can continue making a meaningful impact in the lives of students with exceptional learning needs.
As a paraprofessional, I work alongside teachers to provide academic, behavioral, and social support to students with diverse learning needs. I assist students in both inclusion and small-group settings, helping students build confidence, independence, and the skills they need to be successful.
I believe every student deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and feel valued. My goal is to create a positive, encouraging learning environment where students feel supported, challenged, and empowered to reach their full potential.
I look forward to partnering with students, families, and staff to help every student achieve success throughout the school year.
