"Every child deserves a champion—an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be." — Rita Pierson
Welcome! I am Abby Shivers, your School Counselor. My goal is to support every student's academic, social, and emotional growth. Whether a student needs help making friends, managing big feelings, or adjusting to school, I am here to help!
I work with students, teachers, and families in three main ways:
Classroom SEL Lessons: Monthly interactive lessons on empathy, self-regulation, conflict resolution, and safety.
Small Group Counseling: Peer groups focusing on friendship skills, self-esteem, family changes, or anxiety.
Individual Support: Short-term, solution-focused check-ins for students needing extra encouragement.
When big emotions happen, try these fun strategies at home or in class:
Smell the Flowers: Take a deep breath in through your nose.
Blow Out the Candles: Slowly blow out through your mouth.
Repeat 3 Times: Feel your belly expand and contract.
STOP: Take a deep breath and pause.
THINK: How am I feeling? What are my choices?
ACT: Choose the best solution that keeps everyone safe and happy!
Below are helpful quick links and topics for families supporting elementary-aged children:
Managing Morning Routines & Separation Anxiety: Tips for smooth drop-offs.
Social-Emotional Books to Read at Home: Recommended titles like The Color Monster or The Invisible String.
Understanding the "Zones of Regulation": Helping your child identify their mood (Blue, Green, Yellow, Red).
