Work Based Learning

Class overview

Work-Based Learning is a capstone course intended to provide students with opportunities to apply the skills and knowledge learned in previous Career and Technical Education (CTE) and general education courses within a professional work environment. The course allows students to earn high school credit while working with various industry professionals. Students learn valuable skills to equip them for future college or career plans including communication skills, resume writing, technology, and creativity.

About Me

My name is Amy Gentry, and I am the Work-Based Learning Coordinator at Smith County High School. Before transitioning into education, I earned my Associate's Degree in Public Health and Bachelor's Degree in Dental Hygiene from East Tennessee State University. I began my teaching career as a Health Science instructor at SCHS and continue to enjoy supporting students through my involvement with Tennessee HOSA. After my career change into education, I have since earned a Master of Education in Learning and Technology and an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Educational Leadership.

My husband and I are proud Smith County High School alumni, and we have two children. Outside of school, I enjoy cheering on the Owls (especially at basketball games and cheer competitions), reading, spending time outdoors, and traveling.

I look forward to partnering with our students, families, and community to make this a successful and rewarding school year!
