Class overview
Biology I - Biology is the study of life. We will have class discussions, peer discussions. charts, graphs, simple essays, informational texts, quizzes, tests, and labs that cover the necessary content mandated by TN state standards. This course will have an EOC (end of course) Test.
Students should have a one and a half inch three ring binder and a writing utensil. There is also a $15 laboratory fee. Tests and quizzes will be announced in advance. Students should have no work to complete outside the classroom other than studying for tests and quizzes. There will not be written homework assignments.
Biology II - Biology II standards focuses on orrganism classification, evolution, plant and animal analysis, building on the prerequisite Biology I course through core topics like molecular structures, genetics ,and ecology .
We will have class discussons, peer discussions, anzlyge charts and graphs, write simple essays, take quizzes, tests, and students will be assigned one project each nine weeks. We will conduct labs that cover content mandated by TN state standards, and we will dissect specimens as well. There is a $20 dollar lab fee.
Education - I am a proud graduate of Smith County High School. I graduated from SCHS in 1987 and from Tennessee Technological University in 1991. I am beginning my thirty fifth year of teaching here at Smith County High School.
Family - I have been married to Michael Hackett for thirty two years. We have two children and one grandchild.
Why do I teach? I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. If I had to choose again, I would choose education. I thoroughly enjoy working with young people, and it brings me joy to watch them learn and succeed.
