Class overview
I am excited for all of the new things that we will be learning this year! In 6th grade, we use the Savvas myPerspectives English Language Arts curriculum. This curriculum uses a textbook divided into units with challenging literary and explanatory texts.
Both 5th and 6th grade Social Studies uses the Gallopade text. The sixth grade curriculum covers ancient civilizations while the fifth grade curriculum covers both Tennessee history and United States history.
About me
My name is Tonya Craighead, and I am honored to be entering my 37th year of teaching at Defeated Elementary School. Outside of the classroomm I am married to my husband, Jeff, who is also an educator at DES. Together, we share a wonderful family that includes our son, Kevin, our daughter-in-law, Kayla, and our four cherished grandchildren.

As a reading and social studies educator, I firmly believe that literacy serves as the foundation for all learning. Literature holds the unique power to transport students on incredible journeys of discovery. Through engaging instruction in reading and social studies, my goal is to cultivate an inspiring, collaborative classroom environment that instills a lifelong passion for history and literature.
