About me

I am a class of 2000 graduate from Macon County High School. In May of 2003 I attained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Tennessee State University and a Master's Degree in Instructional Leadership from Tennessee Tech in May of 2005. I have been married to Joe Cornwell for 23 years and we have two children: Kallie Jo Brooks (Husband-Braydee Brooks) and Lucas Cornwell (Junior @ SCHS.) I have had the best of both world's being in and out of education the last 23 years. My first years were spent teaching 3rd grade at Trousdale County Elementary. After 3 years we made the decision for me to step back from my career as we started our family and be fully present in raising them. In 2014 I opened an in-home small group preschool that I ran for the next 9 years, allowing me to remain easily accessible to my children. In 2023 I went back into the public school setting in the role of the Learning Loss Coordinator at Defeated Elementary and then the last 2 years as a paraprofessional @ SCHS. This school year will be my 3rd year @ SCHS where I will serve as the Full-Time Substitute Teacher. I have continued to keep a scaled back role in education (with less demanding responsibilities) in order to be more present and attentive in the lives of my own children as they finish out their high school career. I enjoy getting to work in the same building where my child attends and be around students of similar age. I have always had a love for children, a knack for teaching, and a desire to make a difference wherever I am at. Outside of school you can probably find me in the bleachers somewhere watching my son play ball, at the lake camping with my family, or curled up on my couch reading.
