Unit 1, Set #3 Vocabulary:
Central Idea: the main message or idea expressed in a nonfiction text
Author’s purpose: reason that an author writes a text
Adjective: a word that describes a noun or a pronoun
Theme: message about life/life lesson
Simile: compares two unlike things using like or as
Metaphor: compares two unlike things without using like or as
Personification: giving human qualities to nonhuman things
Respected: honored; treated with esteem
Desperate: suffering extreme need or frustration; with little hope
Disgusted: feeling a strong dislike; annoyed
Clenched:gripped tightly
Stubborn: refusing to give in, obey, or accept
Tenseness: tightness in the muscles of the body
Adverb: answers Where? When? In what way? To what extent?
Adjective: answers What kind? Which one? How many? Or How much?
