Too much stuff? SmithCycle collects donations during move out, sorts them over the summer, and NEW! makes them available to all new and returning students in Fall 2024.

Where?
Every house on campus! Look for a blue tarp taped in your basement or common spaces with the SmithCycle logo next to it. Signs will be put up in your house directing you to the right space.
When?
Collection happens in two waves:
Wave 1: Undergrad Move Out: Saturday, May 11th through Monday, May 13th
Wave 2: Senior Move Out: Monday, May 20th through Wednesday, May 22nd
You can leave items before the waves start, but please don't leave items after May 22nd.
How?
Sort your donations in categories.
WINTER CLOTHING
Bag your winter clothing (trash bags can be found next to your houses's SmithCycle donation location) and put the blue winter clothing sticker you received with your key envelope on the bag.

Did you know?
We keep winter clothing on campus for the annual ISSO Winter Clothes Closet that happens every fall!

OTHER CLOTHING
Bag all of your non-winter clothing (trash bags can be found next to your houses's SmithCycle donation location) and put the green clothing sticker you received with your key envelope on the bag.

Did you know?
You can include ripped, stained, and otherwise damaged clothing! All of our clothing goes to It Takes a Village, which sorts the clothing into reusable items (which are then added to their free closets, mostly in Gateway Regional High School) and fabric waste (which they are able to sell in order to fund their programs).

DORM STUFF
Bag all of your dorm items (see below for examples) and put the orange sticker you received with your key envelope on the bag. If an item is too big to go in a bag, just put it in the donation location, on the tarp.
Linens
Towels, sheet sets, blanket, and throw pillows
School Supplies
Notebooks (partially used okay), pens, highlighters, folders, sticky notes, scissors, calculators, art supplies, etc.
Kitchen Items
Plates, mugs, utensils, water bottles, pots, pans, kitchen appliances, etc.
Furniture
Bed risers, chairs, plastic drawers, trash bins, shelving, rugs, etc.
NO MATTRESS TOPPERS (trash)
Working Electronics
Lamps, fans, extension cords, string lights, hair dryers and curlers/straighteners, vaccums, chargers, etc.
Broken electronics can be recycled on the ground floor of the Campus Center.
Housewares & Decor
Curtains, mirrors, art and decor, clothes hangers, shower caddies, laundry hampers, luggage, corkboards and whiteboards, closet and desk organizers, etc.
Other
Anything that doesn't fit in the other categories!
Toys & stuffies, games & puzzles, flags, holiday decor, yoga mats, sports gear, etc.
Did you know?
Starting this summer, all of your donations of home goods and school supplies will stay on campus! During Fall '24 move in, we will open the SmithCycle space to all new and returning Smithies to 'shop' so you can set up your dorm rooms and get ready for the new year!

BOOKS
Take any books you want to donate to the donation location in your house (designated with a tarp and SmithCycle signs). There will be a large box labeled "BOOKS." Put your books in the box--it's that easy!
Did you know?
Your book donations stay on campus too! Textbooks become part of the ISSO textbook library, and all other books become part of the book nook in the Campus Center's Student Resource Center.

FOOD & TOILETRIES
ONLY UNOPENED!
At the donation location in your house (designated with a tarp and SmithCycle signs), there will be a large box labeled "FOOD & TOILETRIES." Put your donations in the box!
What can you donate?
All unopened, non-perishable, non-expired food
Unopened soap, shampoo, conditioner, and all other hair care products
Unused toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss
Unopened moisturizer and all other skincare products
Menstrual products (box can be opened as long as the individual packaging is not)
Laundry detergent and dish soap (can be opened)
Unopened deodorant and cosmetics
Unopened first aid items and over-the-counter medications
Masks (box can be opened as long as the individual packaging is not)

Your donations of food and toiletries go to the Northampton Survival Center.

What will happen to the things I donate?
All of the winter clothing, home goods, school supplies, and books that you donate will stay on campus! This coming fall, we will open the SmithCycle space during move in to all new and returning Smithies. Home goods and school supplies will be available to everyone (donations encouraged but not required). You can set up your space for the new year for low or no cost, and you won't have to trek out to Target or Walmart.
Books will be added to the Book Nook in the Campus Center's Student Resource Center, and winter clothing will be part of ISSO's annual Winter Clothes Closet.
All other clothing, food, and toiletries will be donated to local community partners
