The Distance to Home is a realistic fiction story about a girl named Quinnen and her family’s struggles on getting over the death of her older sister, Haley. Haley had always been there for Quinnen, cheering her on in her baseball games, sharing ice cream, giving advice and just generally supporting her. The summer of Haley’s death, Quinnen and Haley begin to get distant as Haley gets a boyfriend (Zack) and begins to hide things from Quinnen. Quinnen doesn’t like Zack, and tries countless attempts to break them up. One day, Quinnen goes too far and finally Haley snaps. Traumatized by her mistake and Haley’s death, Quinnen quits the second best thing in her life; baseball. After an unhappy and numb 9 months, Quinnen finally finds a way out of her misery and starts a new life, a life without Haley in it.
A story about loss and love and life, this book will help you understand the true bond between siblings, and how after death, it can’t be broken. If you like gentle, honest, soft and sweet stories with a bit of backbone, The Distance to Home is for you.
