Classroom Policy

Saint Mary's Elementary

Spanish Homework and Grading Policies 6th-8th Grades

Assignment Notebook

* All assignments should be written in the student's assignment book daily. All students are given time in class to do this. If there is no homework, students should write "None"

* Parents are encouraged to check assignment notebooks at home regularlyto be aware of homework, projects, tests, and other assignments

*For a parent to know what work a student has to do at home, the student needs to be responsible for writing daily in the assignment notebook. Homework assignments are not posted on my web pages, they are posted on the classroom assignment boards.

Parent Portal

* Parents and students are encouraged to sign up for, and remember, web access to student grades through the portal. If you do forget your access ID, please contact Nancy Jezuit in our school office.

Homework Requirements

* First and last name at the top of the paper

* Free of errors in spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar

* Neat handwriting, no cross-outs, no major rips or crumples, smudges or stains

*Directions have been followed, all questions answered, and assignment is done to the best of the student's ability

Homework Grading

* 20% of the student's grade per quarter

*Homework is assigned points and is due at the beginning of class

Tests, Projects, and Quizzes

* Tests and projects, quizzes, homework, and participation make up points toward the final grade

* If a students is absent for a quiz, an 'x' is put in the spot on the portal. It does not hurt or help a student's average

*If a students is going away on a trip or vacation or if a students knows they will be out of school when a test will be given, it is the student's responsibility to take the test before they leave or are absent. If the student does not take the test before they leave, and know they will be absent, 15 points will be taken off of the test, but the students can still make up the test.

* If a student is ill on the day of a test, they will be able to make up the test the day they come back from being absent. No points will be taken off due to illness

*Points will be taken off for projects and homework handed in late. A student has 2 school days to hand in the missing assignment before a '0' is given.

There is NO extra credit offered to students in Spanish. On occasion, a student may be awarded a '100%' in a grading area because of certain items brought in to help with a SME good will drive; Coats4Kids, canned foods, etc.
