Hello! My name is Marjorie Hughes. Welcome to my fifth-grade classroom!
The 2025-2026 school year marks my eighth year at St. Mark Catholic School and my seventeenth year of teaching. Teaching is not just a career for me; it is truly my vocation. My passion for nurturing young minds and helping children grow academically, spiritually, and personally drives my dedication every day.
My career began with New Hanover County Schools, where I taught grades 1-4 for nine years. After my time there, I had the wonderful opportunity to be a stay-at-home parent, during which I homeschooled my oldest child, who has special needs.
I graduated from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a concentration in Finance. Go, Pirates! I earned my K-6 Elementary Education Teaching Certificate from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
My husband, Paul, and I celebrate our 26th year of marriage this August. We have three children – Mia, Noah, and Reese – and a dog named Patch.
As a Saint Mark Catholic Church parishioner for over 25 years, I also served as a Catechist in the Faith Formation Program.
I feel blessed to be here at SMCS and look forward to a wonderful school year.
