Ms. Clark and Mrs. Dornisch surveyed a large percentage of the class of 2026 at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. They asked what students plans are after they graduate next year, as of right now. The pie chart below depicts that nearly 40% of the class of 2026 plans to enroll in a 4 year college or university! The second largest grouping is students who plan to go straight into the workforce post-graduation at 17.3%. 6.8% of rising seniors plan to enroll in an apprenticeship to learn a skill or trade. 13.7% of students plan to attend community college after graduation to obtain certificates, associates degree's, or transfer their credits. 6.8% of CHS rising seniors plan to enlist in the Military.
Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Dornisch encouraged students who weren't sure about their plans, to let them know in the survey but choosing "Undecided" or "I know what I want to do, but I don't know the path to get there". Currently, about 9.7% of the class of 2026 is undecided about their after graduation plans and 5.8% of students know what they want to do but are unsure of the path to get there. The College Liaison and Career Advisor's goal is to meet with those students 1 on 1 in the career center to help them solidify their next step after high school. They started to complete this task at the end of the school year in 2025, and plan to continue in August.
Remember students, the career center is here to support YOU and YOUR goals. We are proud to be a part of your team and provide support and resources so that you feel confident in your next chapter once you leave Chopticon! Come by and see us anytime!
Have A Great Summer!

Our goal is to build an "Every Student Flies" program that offers every high school-aged student in Southern Maryland to receive a free hands-on flight in an airplane.
We intend to leverage existing STEM programs available to our high school students and get them exposure into the robust aviation industry in Southern Maryland. With a free instructional flight, we will bridge existing programs into a true hands-on experience piloting an airplane.
"Every Student Flies" will enable our youth to identify early if they want to pursue a career in one of the several aspects of our industry: pilot, engineer, air traffic controller, designer, dispatcher, mechanic, technician, program manager, etc...
It is our vision that this program will be open to any interested high-school aged student in Southern Maryland. We understand the infrastructure requirements needed to achieve this goal and the generous support of our donors, sponsors, volunteers, and instructors is greatly appreciated.

Here is an opportunity for rising Juniors and Seniors who are technically-inclined students, specifically those who want to explore actuarial science or computer programming.
An actuary is a business professional who uses mathematical and financial tools to help identify and manage risk, so it's a great career for students who are strong mathematically but who aren't necessarily interested in teaching.
For more than 30 years LVC has run a one-week summer camp for rising high school seniors to help them decide if they want to pursue actuarial work, and last year they began offering a programming camp with applications to data science.
Here's a link to the camp web sites:
