The Park Hall Media lessons will be focusing on Library Skills, Computer Skills and Media Literacy. If you have any questions about the standards being taught you are welcome to explore the American Association of School Libraries' Standards. We have simplified the Domains for the report card standards but we teach all of the standards between Kindergarten and 5th Grade.
Media is a graded course and we use the Standards Based Grading system. Students will receive grades on assignments that are turned in anytime during the semester and Media grades will appear on the report cards in January and June. The scale used for grades in Media is the same (Strong Command, Partial Command and Not Yet.) as the classroom, but what I look for in an individual assignment is a bit different. We have three standards (Think, Create/Share, and Grow) These standards do not change over the six years they have Media. The way we teach them is in a spiraling curriculum of skills that build from year to year. Students cannot realistically master the entire standard in the lower grades. They are mastering individual skills involved in the standard as we go. Students who are doing their work and demonstrating the skills taught will receive scores of PC. When they start applying those skills independently those scores will start showing that they have a strong command of the standard.
Below are some buttons that will take you to some resources you might find useful if you are looking for some fun things to do on your computer.
- All students start the year with a clean account. They can check out one book every week and are allowed to renew a book if they need more time to complete it. Students who forget their library books on their library day, may return them at any time, but due to our staff having other duties, they can only check out books on their class's library day. Lost or damaged books need to be paid for so that we can replace them.
