Cheerleading:
All interested athletes are expected to be present from day one and have all required documentation fully completed if they wish to compete for a place on the team.
For online registration go to Arbiter and use "Find a program" to select your high school. Failure to submit all required electronic data entry/forms/cards by the deadline set by the high school will necessitate the exclusion of the student. This is because prior to allowing a student to participate in any tryout or sport, the high school must collect at a minimum the following: current medical clearance specifically to participate in high school sports; parental permission to participate, verification of medical insurance/policy number, a pre-participation head injury/concussion form, and updated medical concerns that the coaches need to be aware of. It is recommended that physicals be done in July as they are good for one calendar year.
Preparticipation Physical Evaluation (updated August 2022)
History Form - To be filled out prior to examination by the patient or parent/guardian and provided to the Physician.
Physical Examination Form - To be completed by the Physician and kept in their office in the patient’s medical file.
Medical Eligibility Form - This is the ONLY form that should be submitted to the school.
In order to ensure the safety and security of players and coaches; eliminate unnecessary distractions, and protect the integrity of the tryout process, no third party observers are permitted at athletic practices or tryouts.
It is recommended that physicals be done in July as they are good for one calendar year.
IMPORTANT: If a student with a documented disability is trying out for a sport and is requesting that an accommodation be made to enable him/her to participate, the athletic director and head coach must be notified at least two weeks ahead of tryouts so that there is adequate time to consider the request.
First Day of Fall Sport Tryouts - August 12, 2026
First Day of Winter Sport Tryouts - November 14, 2026
First Day of Spring Sport Tryouts - March 1, 2027
Once a student makes a team and is issued school equipment/uniforms, he/she must fill out a Debt form. At the end of the season, students must turn in all equipment/uniforms in good condition, or he/she will be placed on the Debt list. Once on the debt list, he/she will be required to turn in the equipment or pay for the missing equipment/uniform. If he/she doesn't, they will not receive graduation tickets (if a senior) or will not be allowed to participate in next year's sports until everything is paid/returned.

We have partnered with the School-Based Health Centers to offer sports physicals during the school day, starting June 3! All sports physicals are valid for one year, so getting your physical now will help you prepare for summer workouts and sports for the entire next school year. The cost is $40, but if you have Medicaid, the physical is covered.
To have your student receive their sports physical during the school day next week, please follow these steps:
Visit the School-Based Health Centers website and enroll. This will create your student's patient portal account.
Complete the parent portion of the SMCPS Sports Physical Form, sign it, and send it to school with your child along with a check or cash to pay.
Call the number on the attached flyer (240-434-6059) to schedule your appointment. We will have appointments available next week, Tuesday through Friday.
Be available by phone during your student's appointment time in case the doctor has questions.
On Thursday, June 5th, they will have a Spanish Medical Translator to assist, so if you need a translator, schedule your appointment for this day.
For our recent graduates, the School-Based Health Centers are a great place to get their college physicals.
If you are facing financial difficulties, we don’t want that to prevent your child from participating in sports. Please reach out to our Athletic Director, Steve Correll, at sccorrell@smcps.org for assistance. We extend our gratitude to a special alumnus for their generous donation, which helps ensure that all students have the opportunity to participate.
