Students checkout books during their regularly scheduled media classes. In addition, students are welcome to visit the media center for checkout during open checkout with teacher permission.
Duke Media Center Open Checkout hours:
Everyday from 2:30-2:45
Students may check out books according to grade level:
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten: 1 book
1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades: 2 books
Grades 3 to 5 may substitute 1 of their book checkouts to select 1 magazine for checkout.
Materials may be returned each week but are not due for two weeks. Students may renew books for a total of 2 renewals. This adds up to a total 3 weeks checkout for each title.
While there are no fines for overdue books, students are responsible for the cost of lost or damaged books. We will use this payment to purchase another copy of the book for students to enjoy. Please pay with exact cash or with a check made out to CWFDES, and send the payment to school in an envelope marked "Media Center." The payment is refundable if a lost book is found and returned during the current school year.
Students who owe money to the library for lost or damaged books risk losing the privilege of borrowing more materials and will receive a notice.
The largest percentage of library books that are damaged are a direct result of water bottles in the backpacks. We understand that students need water bottles for hydration but they are not good for library books. If you use a water bottle, please put your library books or the water bottle in a plastic bag. This will help us save the library books from water damage.
