Ms. Jennifer Consalvo has assumed the position of principal of Chopticon High School; she was previously the leader of Esperanza Middle School. Chopticon students and staff have already shown appreciation for her enthusiasm and welcoming presence, but many still had questions that needed to be answered. Keep reading to learn more about Ms. Consalvo and what her goals are for the new school year.
Transitioning from a middle school to a high school principal brings new responsibilities and challenges, but Ms. Consalvo is embracing them. She stated that her previous experience as a middle school principal was helpful. Although she came in initially unfamiliar with Chopticon, she had heard great things. She said the main difference between middle and high school is the credits and extracurriculars, and she is motivated to face new experiences and challenges as a leader.
Ms. Consalvo also mentioned that she is excited to support the Academy of Visual & Performing Arts (AVPA). She said she plans to attend several AVPA events in the future and see the talent of this student group.
She also values the opinions of the student body and plans to meet regularly with the Principal Advisory Committee (PAC). When asked about the student's favorite pizza at PAC meetings, she said she doesn’t have a concrete answer and said that it’s on her to-do list. Any students who would like to be a part of PAC are welcome and encouraged to join.
Ms. Consalvo has emphasized that this year she is focused on learning and implementing small but meaningful changes. She said her message to the students and staff is clear:
“Follow the rules and it will be fun; don’t and it won’t,” Consalvo said.
She encourages everyone to respect the SMCPS code of conduct and work together to foster a positive school community.
