Guys and Dolls is a humorous and entertaining 1950’s musical that was performed at Chopticon High School on April 11, 12, and 13th of 2024. Bravehouse Productions set up four amazing performances telling the story of gambling and love starring Braden Ostrowski as Nathan Detriot, Indiana Hooven as Sky Materson, Harley Fisher as Sister Sarah Brown, and Shelby Herrington as Miss Adelaide.

The musical takes place in a bustling New York City where the story unfolds. Brother Nicely (Logan William) and Benny (Hayden Long) are helping Nathan earn $1,000 to host his crap game in Joey Biltmore (Logan Patton) garage without getting caught by Lt. Brannigan (Finneas Kantor) until he gets the idea to bet Sky that he can’t take a mission doll to Havana, Cuba. Sending Sky to seduce the sergeant while Adelaide woes about her fourteen year engagement with Nathan with no marriage in sight.
The show is sweet with songs like I’ve Never Been in Love Before and More I Cannot Wish You. However, the audience also had a good laugh with Take Back Your Mink and Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat. It’s a classic for a reason, and everyone in the audience felt the nostalgia with the famous If I Were a Bell.
Everyone worked on the show and put a large amount of effort and love into it. The day before opening night, the cast had a ‘soft audience’ and brought their stuffed animals to put into the audience.
Whether it was the Hot Box dancers or Crapshooters, the dances entertained everyone. The costumes, hair, makeup, and lights were great and authentic due to the hard work and dedication of Mrs. Sanford, and tech.
The music was loud and got everyone into the scene thanks to the talents of Mrs. Karnbach’s conduction and everyone playing in the pit orchestra. However, above all, none of this all would be possible without Mr. Mhar, the theater director.
