ENERGY in San Mateo County
Energy in San Mateo county
How does the energy system work in San Mateo County?
The Energy system in San Mateo County is largely driven by two key organizations: Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE), and Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E).
PCE is a community choice energy (CCE) program, which means it is a locally controlled community organization that provides choice for where energy comes from. PCE sources energy from non-polluting, renewable sources such as solar and wind. PCE then provides the electricity, and PG&E delivers it over their lines and wires. Through PCE, electric customers can choose to have 50% or 100% of their electricity supplied from clean, renewable sources at competitive rates - to learn more about how to opt up to 100% click here.
PG&E does the billing for all of these services, and continues to provide the natural gas in the county.
Community Partners
Who can San Mateo County school communities partner with to help them achieve a carbon neutrality goal?
Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE): PCE is San Mateo County's community choice energy (CCE) program, which enables local residents and businesses to have a choice regarding where their energy comes from. All school communities in San Mateo County have the option to completely source their electricity from green power sources by opting up to PCE's ECO100 program.
Energy Watch: The San Mateo County Energy Watch (SMCEW) is a local government partnership between PG&E and the City/County Association of Governments of San Mateo County (C/CAG), and is administered by the County’s Office of Sustainability. SMCEW provides no-cost technical services (coordination, outreach, and educational resources) to help guide community members through the implementing energy efficiency efforts and programs.
