Learning Journal and Reflection
This was the final assignment for my Discovering Ireland: Landscape class. In this essay, I reflect on my experience in Ireland and how it was impacted by the archeological sites we visited in this course. I talk a bit about some of the history we learned, but the primary objective of this assignement was to reflect on our time in the course. It also includes some illustrations and sketches I did during the class trips.
Definition and Characteristics of Folk Medicine
This was a midterm assignment for my Healers and Healing course. In this essay, I talk about Folk Medicine and its importance in culture and society. I chose this assignment because I came away from this class with a much better understanding of Folk Medicine, and I feel that this paper exemplifies some of waht I learned. I also think that Folk Medical practices are a great area of overlap for my Environmental Studies major and Anthropology minor.
Pizza Bagels and the Folklife of Summer Camp
This was a final project for my Irish Folklife and Ethnology class. For this assignment, we had to take what we had learned about the importance of vernacular objects and apply that to an object we find to be uniquely meaningful in our own lives. I chose this assignment for my portfolio because it is an example of how my time at UCD helped me to re-contextualize other aspects of my life.
Signs and Symbols: Native American Activist Art in the Form of Waymarkers
This was the final assignment for my Art/Resistance/Activism course. For this assignment, we got to choose a topic of our choice as a lens to examine activist art. I included this in my portfolio because I think it was deeply informed by the discussions I had in this class. It was interesting to write this essay about America while in Ireland. Getting to be in another country while reflecting on the relationship the U.S has to land and people was very enlightening.
