In fall 2023, I studied abroad at the Umbra Institute in Perugia. I took courses in Renaissance art and culture, the Roman Empire, Italian food culture and history, ceramic, and the Italian language. I am majoring in anthropology, with a concentration in archaeology, as well as minoring in museum studies, so being able to take courses that were narrowed down to specific peoples and cultures gave me an idea of what I could study in the future or choose to focus on as a career. Italy also had no shortage of museums and other historical sites, so I gained valuable insight into how museums function, based on class trips and on my own time. All of these courses taught me how to view history in a respectful and unbiased way, while also helping me engage with the history and culture physically, a skill that anthropologists and archaeologists need to succeed in their field
