About the program

The TDMA SHSM program is designed to help students further develop their interests in the arts and explore the possibilities of pursuing it as a career. Many of our TDMA SHSM graduates have developed a deeper understanding of this sector when enrolled into this program and have discovered many programs that they never thought would be an option as a career.


Congratulations to our recent TDMA SHSM graduates. These students received not only a high school diploma but a valued TDMA SHSM Diploma acknowledging their experience, and training in the arts, culture and technology sector.

The TDMA SHSM Diploma provides students with an additional edge over regular diploma holders when applying for post secondary programs. Many post secondary institutions also offer grants to SHSM graduates.

Some of the career pathways from this program include but are not limited to are: Actor, Advertising Agent, Animator, Arts Management, Art Therapist, Artist, Architect, Dancer, Dramatic Arts Performer, Fashion Designer, Film, Event Planner, Graphic Designer, Journalist, Interior Designer, Modeling, Music Producer, Music Therapist, Special Effects Makeup Artist, Stage Manager, Technical Production, Writer, etc.

What we've done

TDMA students have been instrumental in the production graphic designs and 3D designs as well as broadcasting live events such as school plays, sports and even OFSAA Boys hockey as well as OFSAA Girls Soccer. TDMA students also helped construct the control booth in the cafeteria that helps with the production of music and drama performances on the stage.

Several form TDMA students are currently pursuing post secondary studies related to TDMA or are already working in the industry, living their dreams.

Program Requirements

In the Arts and Culture major, students will take 8 credits in grade 11 and 12:

4 Arts and Culture major credits

1 English credit (Grade 11 or 12)

1 Science/Social Sciences or Business credit (Grade 11 or 12)

2 co-operative education credits to gain workplace experience that helps you refine, extend and practice your Arts and Culture knowledge and skills

Additionally, students will have opportunities for:

Experiential learning, career exploration and reach-ahead activities in Arts and Culture program

Certifications and training programs in arts and culture, including:

4 compulsory certifications: Standard First Aid, WHMIS (generic), CPR (Level C) with AED

3 additional certifications and/or training courses as specified in the sector-specific guide
