Service Trips
January 2025 - Costa Rica
Our school believes in social responsibility at the local, national and international level. We are excited to be able to bring this international service opportunity to our students here at OLB. In January, a group of 24 will be traveling to Costa Rica to work with the local communities on environmental sustainable projects. Follow us on instagram while we share our experiences.
The focus of this service trip had an educational focus. 18 students were priveledged to travel to Udaipur, in the western state of Rajasthan, India. Students helped to build a latrine for a newly built 3 classroom school house.
If you are interested in our future Service Trips or have any questions, please contact Mrs. Knights at mknights@smcdsb.on.ca
Cooperative Education
Offered each semester
Cooperative education (Co-op) is a unique program that integrates academic study with practical workplace experience. A co-op credit will provide you with an excellent opportunity to test drive a job to see if it is suitable. Our high school offers co-op courses both semesters and offer something different from regular classroom courses – real-world work experience.
Co-ops are beneficial regardless of the program or level of study you are taking. These credits will offer you experience to steer you in a particular direction for education or for work following high school.
The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) allows students to try a huge variety of apprenticeship-based careers in skilled trades, through the Cooperative Education program. Students gain apprenticeship training while working towards journeyperson certification AND their secondary diploma. OYAP is a great choice for students who enjoy learning by doing. Apprenticeship training provides access to well-paying jobs that demand a high level of skill, judgment and creativity.
