Hello! My name is Mr. Miorin, and I am in my 15th year of teaching Music, Drama, and Dance.
Before joining the community at St. André Bessette, I spent a decade teaching the arts at St. Paul’s, followed by four years at St. Cecilia, where I helped open the school and served as its inaugural teacher-librarian. My background in music education began at the Bradford Academy of Music, where I taught guitar and drums and led the Summer Rock Band Program. Outside the classroom, I have performed extensively as a guitarist, drummer, and vocalist in touring bands, with original music broadcast on Toronto’s 102.1 The Edge.
Recently, I co-authored the book The Why and How of Popular Music Education: A Canadian Perspective, a collaborative text written by music educators across Canada exploring the benefits of using pop music as a dynamic teaching tool. Beyond my passion for the arts, I stay active through weightlifting and enthusiastically follow Toronto sports, including the Maple Leafs, Blue Jays, Raptors, and Toronto FC.
Why Teach the Arts? The arts provide a powerful platform to foster creativity, confidence, and critical thinking. Through an inquiry-based approach, I empower students to explore relevant social issues within a safe, collaborative environment. I encourage students to put forth their best work, view constructive feedback as a vital tool for growth, and embrace the creative process as lifelong learners.
