Essay advice

This chapter requires you to write an essay about your favorite movie.

The most common mistakes students make are:

-Good (bueno/a/os/as) vs well (bien) Click here for an explanation

-Saber vs. Conocer (see Ch. 1B)

-Ser vs. Estar (see Ch. 2A) Click here for Ser vs. estar notes.

-Preterit vs. Imperfect (see Ch. 5A)

Click here for a video for a lesson on Preterit (CSIF) vs. Imperfect (DEATHCOW).

-"A" personal (Click here for an explanation)

-"en" means "at/in/on" but "a"means "to"

-Se trata de = It's about

-Hay= there is/are versus son=are

-Make sure you use the word "que" to mean "that" when necessary

-Never use "yo" with me gusta. You can say "a mí," but never "yo"

-Using verbs like gustar (See this chapter's resources!-6B)

-Using the wrong pronoun (direct, indirect, reflexive) Click here for a pdf file that explains all three.

-Not knowing the gender of words. The general rule (there are always exceptions) is that if the word ends in l,o,n,e,r,s it is masculine and if it ends in d, ión, z, a it is feminine.

-Adjective/noun agreement

-Spelling and accent errors

-There is NO 's in Spanish!

-Confusing muy, mucho, and más

-Irregular verbs
