Un Poco Sobre Mi ~ A Little About Myself
SMCC hats off to theeš...
As a š2000 graduateš of SMCC I am extremely excited to have been blessed with the opportunity to return home to teach. My name is Sara Memije and this is my seventh year as a member of the incredible staff of SMCC. After this whorlwind of the CO-VID Pandemic and enjoying the summer home with my children I am back as one of the Exploratory Spanish(7th grade-MCES), Spanish I(8th grade), II and IV teachers. I am married to Carlos Gutierrez and have two wonderful and very different sons. Xavier, an incoming Sophomore(where does the time go?) here at SMCC(and one of my Spanish II students, pray for meš) and Xander, an 8th grader who attends Saint Charles School in Newport. I also have a beautiful little girl, Lila, who is now 4 years old and will be attending the full day Pre-K class at the St. Charles Borromeo! When work and my children are not keeping me busy I love to excercise, travel, speak Spanish and dance! We enjoy taking the summer months to explore new places and visit family in Mexico whenever possible. This past summer I was able to visit my niece in the Domican Rupublic!
My passion for Spanish began in college when I spent a semester abroad in Mexico. From there I decided to continue living in Mexico for about a year before I returned to Michigan to graduate from Siena Heights University with a degree in Spanish. I am certified K-12 Spanish and Elementary General Education K-5. I come to you after working 15 years in the River Rouge School District with experience in a variety of roles. I started as a English as a Second Language Teacher, transitioned into teaching GRADES 1-5 Spanish and finally spent two years teaching 3rd grade.
I am looking forward to getting the year started and having the opportunity to encourage and engage the youth of SMCC in another language! I am truly thankful and blessed.
