I am Karthika K, currently a PMRF fellow in the Department of Chemistry at Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad working under Dr. Sushabhan Sadhukhan. My area of research includes the design & synthesis of novel small molecule inhibitors to treat various detrimental diseases such as diabetes, cancer, bacterial resistance, etc. My present work is more inclined to the design and synthesis of natural product-based compounds, where I combine various pharmacophores to get the most potent multi-targeting antidiabetic agents.
My motive is to replace the typical "One drug-One, target-One, therapeutic effect" with "One drug, multi-target, Multitherapeutic effect". I am also involved in mammalian cell culture which helps me to study the cytotoxicity of the synthesized compounds as well, so called "future drugs".
Apart from research, I am also involved in teaching assistantship where I love to teach organic chemistry for both Master's and Bachelor's degree students. It includes, general organic chemistry, name reactions, reagents, NMR spectroscopy, pericyclic reactions, and photochemistry.
