Pioneering Research and Development in Science and Technology
Welcome to the Cold Atoms Quantum Science and Technology (CAQSaT) Lab at IIT Madras, a center of excellence dedicated to advancing experimental quantum technologies using ultracold neutral atoms. Under the leadership of Dr. Rahul Sawant, our interdisciplinary team of physicists and engineers is focused on developing foundational tools for next-generation quantum sensing, simulation, and timekeeping.
We explore new methods to cool, trap, and manipulate atoms at ultra-low temperatures, integrate them with high-finesse optical cavities, and engineer quantum correlations for enhanced precision. Our work spans atom–photon interactions, cavity-QED, entanglement generation, and coherent control using light and electromagnetic fields.
At CAQSaT, we believe that cutting-edge research must be both rigorous and visionary. Our lab builds modular experimental platforms that allow us to probe the quantum world at the level of individual atoms and quanta of light. We are equally committed to training the next generation of scientists through hands-on research in atomic physics, optics, and quantum engineering—ensuring a strong human capital pipeline for India’s emerging quantum ecosystem.
