ArchiMate is an open and standardized modeling language developed by The Open Group to support the description, analysis, and visualization of enterprise architecture (EA) within and across business domains. It provides a comprehensive framework, standardized notation, and encourages interoperability. Its purpose is to facilitate communication among stakeholders and improve understanding of the models. ArchiMate helps organizations to describe, analyze, and visualize their EA, enabling end users to understand, communicate, and take decisions about the structure and behavior of their processes. Tata Consultancy Service (TCS) is a global enterprise which deals with international customers, having its branches involved into IT, application, and consulting services.
Benefits of ArchiMate:
Standardized Notations: As mentioned initially, it defines a standardized graphical notation for the visual representation of enterprise models. This helps better and easy understanding of the models by various stake holders.
Integrated Framework: ArchiMate provides a comprehensive and integrated framework which covers several areas of EA that includes business, application, and technology layers.
Cross-Domain Modeling: It supports the modeling of EA across different domains that ensures the alignment between business strategies and technology implementations.
Open and Vendor Neutral: Besides being vendor neutral, it even encourages interoperability. It also allows enterprises / organizations to choose from a variety of tools and platforms that support the language.
Unified Modeling Language: As it provides a centralized format for any enterprise architecture modeling, it facilitates a crystal clear view, understanding and communication to its customer or stake holders about the enterprise services.
Comprehensive Coverage: ArchiMate brings additional benefit i.e., comprehensive coverage for TCS, as it uses wide range of aspects (business, application, and technology layers). This allows sorting out many issues not only related to customer services but also the processes related to application as well.
Layered View: The other major key benefit of ArchiMate is its facility of “Layered View”. This helps in creating architectures which are very beneficial in terms of understanding customer requirements from various perspectives.
Adaptability: Especially for TCS, ArchiMate allows adapting its modeling language to the industry requirements, context based changes, and specific customer service processes.
