To be eligible for Senior Legacy Symposium, students must be graduating seniors or part of a group project with a graduating senior.
Students do not need to be part of the University Honors Program to be eligible for SLS.
Each department is invited to nominate up to 3 students.
Nominations are typically submitted early in the spring semester (January-March).
Groups nominated for the Senior Legacy Symposium may all participate in the presentation process. Each group will designate a point of contact to fill our relevant information and stay on top of SLS communications. Each group should be prepared to specify who will be in attendance, who will be presenting, and whether any group members will not be able to attend.
The poster session runs from 3:00-5:00 PM. Students may set up their posters anytime between 1:00 and 3:00 PM after they stop by the Student Check-In.
Easels, poster boards, and pins are provided. Poster boards can accommodate posters up to 36''x48''. Students are responsible for setting up and taking down their posters.
The focus of an interdisciplinary panel session is teasing out conversation between 4 to 5 researchers from different fields in an hour-long session. The intent is not for each researchers to give separate presentations, but to introduce their work and engage in dialogue with each other.
Researchers should arrive a few minutes before the presentation. The panel will be guided by prompts sent to students via email.
Each presentation room will be scheduled for a 50-minute session, and will be facilitated by a faculty or staff moderator. Presenters should prepare to deliver a 10-minute presentation. Each speaker will be given an additional 5 minutes after their presentation for questions. The moderator will help presenters stay on time and will invite questions from the audience.
Presenters should arrive at least 5 minutes before the session begins for set-up. Those who choose to use visual aids should upload those to a flash drive, so that they can easily be accessed on the room's computer.
The Senior Legacy Symposium is open to the public.
We encourage students, staff, and community members interested in learning about student research projects at SLU.
No, the Senior Legacy Symposium is not a judged event.
However, presenters should attend the banquet following the symposium from 5-6 PM to receive a medallion that can be worn at graduation.
