What are callbacks and why do they take place?
A callback is an invitation for an actor to participate in additional auditions after the initial auditions have taken place.
Callbacks are a way for the director/casting team to work more personally with an actor or multiple actors to get a further understanding of their abilities and personality. These not only allow directors to see an actor work alone but also to see how they interact with other potential cast members.
Who will be there?
For the SLU Theatre and Dance Program's productions, the director will run the callbacks.
The other actors who auditioned that received a callback will also be there.
There might also be other production team members there to help ensure the callback process runs smoothly and to aid the director if needed.
What do you need to prepare?
Each callback is a bit different! Some directors might want to see monologues or scenes from the show. Others might want to do some ensemble work. It also depends on the type of show. For example, musicals often also require dance and vocal callbacks.
The monologues, scenes, or music that a director will want to see at callbacks are called sides. For our callbacks, the sides can be found linked below.
