Abstract
Postpartum depression is a psychological disorder that can develop in parents after childbirth and, if left untreated, can negatively affect their families and relationships. However, this disorder is greatly overlooked in fathers leading to lack of treatment and awareness. We have chosen to develop an evidence-based action plan designed to challenge the social stigmas surrounding this disorder as well as to increase education, resources, and awareness for fathers who suffer from postpartum depression. Through our review of empirical literature and expert interviews, we recommend three strategies to combat this problem, which includes increasing and improving screening practices, greater dissemination of educational resources, and facilitating social support. The practical aspects of our plan as well as implications for further research will be discussed.
