Brian Esselman

For twenty-three years, Dr. Brian Esselman has been a dedicated member of the Affton High School faculty. His academic journey has been extensive, culminating in the summer of 2022 with a doctorate in Heritage Leadership for Sustainability, Social Justice, and Participatory Culture from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. This Ed.D., along with an M.A. in History and an M.Ed. in Educational Administration, complements his undergraduate degree in Philosophy/Religion. His doctoral research focused on the compelling subject of authentic local history.

Currently, he leads the Social Studies department and co-sponsors the National Honor Society, mentoring students in leadership and service. A distinguished educator, he is a two-time recipient of the AHS Teacher of the Year award and a National Board-Certified Teacher who recently renewed his NBC status in 2023. Beyond his professional life, he and his wife share a mutual enthusiasm for architectural history, taking opportunities to travel and explore the works of Frank Lloyd Wright.
