For class every day (except on peer review days), you will prepare and upload to Google Drive two discussion questions about our reading for that day. We will use these in our class discussion and activities, so be sure to ask things that interest you. These also provide nice little seeds for you to grow into paper topics. You'll benefit most from a thoughtful, researched, and specific question than a slap-dash, superficial, or vague question—I'll select the strongest and most intriguing questions (along with popular concerns) to guide discussion.

Your work will be graded on a 1000-point scale. At the end of the course, I will convert your total points to produce a percentage that will translate into a letter on the CAS scale. Here’s the breakdown:

A- 93-90
B+ 89-87
B 86-83
B- 82-80
C+ 79-77
C 76-73
C- 72-70

F 59 and below
I do not count the of comments per class period to achieve a certain participation grade. Rather, I am looking for your genuine engagement in topics of discussion and a sincere effort in all activities. Obviously, you should not spend class time texting, pulling up Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking sites on the lab computers or on your personal laptop. Some criteria for your participation grade are below:
The work for this course is carefully sequenced and will grow out of ongoing class work as well as your homework assignments. Staying on top of your assignments, doing them diligently, and turning them in on time are all crucial for your success in this class. If you have questions about a grade you received, or if you would like help improving your writing, please speak with me. We can meet during my office hours, which I have posted above, or schedule a different time to meet. Make sure to speak with me as your concerns arise, not during the final weeks of class.
