The project explores mutual aid and how difficult it can be to access resources such as food and services that provide inclusivity and wellness. Oftentimes there is disconnection between community members due to stereotyping and biased assumptions, but coming together to create a cohesive art project can have a positive impact for all those involved. I will be designing and completing a mural at the Maplewood community food pantry with the help of members of Artists First and community partners. The goal is to change the narrative of who is in need of aid by fostering community integration through creative self-expression and art that tells a story while beautifying a space for a community food pantry.
