Exploratory Chinese

Course Description:
This course is designed for students with no prior knowledge of Chinese and Chinese culture and meets once or twice a week for one trimester. Emphasis is on communicating daily-life topics, such as basic introductions, numbers, families, and days of the week. At the end of the course, students will acquire vocabulary and sentence structures in some basic daily-life communications. Students will also be able to develop an awareness and appreciation for Chinese culture.
Course Objectives:
Develop an awareness and appreciation for Chinese and Chinese cultures and experience a taste of reading, writing, listening, and speaking in Chinese. The goal of exploratory World Languages at the middle school is to help students decide which language to study every day next year.

Become sensitive to the different tones in Chinese
Comprehend simple sentences related to topics covered
Speaking
Master over 100 words and phrases
Communicate about daily topics
Reading
Read simple texts with Pinyin are given
Culture
Understand the differences between China and American culture and appreciate Chinese culture
