Welcome to the home page of the Southern Lehigh High School Spartan Writing Center!

What is the Spartan Writing Center?

The Spartan Writing Center, located in room 129, is a space where students can come work one-on-one with Mr. Shaw, a certified English teacher with 21 years of experience, to get assistance with any aspect of a writing assignment at any stage of the writing process:

• Idea generation/planning

• Drafting

• Revising (both before the assignment has been turned in and, with teacher approval, to improve after an assignment has been graded)

• Research and citation

The Spartan Writing Center will also be offering sessions and workshops throughout the year on a variety of topics, such as:

• College essays

• Resumes/cover letters

• Advanced Placement timed write strategies

• And more!

How do students access the Spartan Writing Center?

Students may access the Spartan Writing Center in a number of ways:

• Teacher referral (during class or by appointment)

• Self-referral (by appointment during Spartan periods, study halls, and before/after school--Students should fill out the Student Self-Referral Google Form to schedule an appointment)

• Drop-in (during Spartan periods, study halls, and before/after school, subject to availability)

• As part of a group of students Mr. Shaw has coordinated with the teacher to assist.

What other assistance will Mr. Shaw be providing to students and teachers?

Along with the services he will be providing in the Spartan Writing Center, Mr. Shaw will also be working in coordination with Southern Lehigh English teachers to provide extra support and assistance to students as they participate in in-class writing activities.
