Welcome to Slocum ISD
Since the late 1800s, the Slocum Independent School District has been dedicated to educating the youth of Southeast Anderson County. Nestled in a rural setting along State Highway 294, Slocum High School and Slocum PK-8 serve approximately 360 students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. Renowned for its exceptional student achievements and the cultivation of well-rounded individuals, the district prides itself on instilling exemplary character in its students.
Slocum High School students have achieved remarkable success in both academic and athletic pursuits within the University Interscholastic League. The school boasts four state championship titles across various sports and has seen eleven teams qualify for state-level competitions. Notably, the 2009 Mustang Basketball team secured the school's inaugural Class A Division II State Championship. Additionally, the Lady Mustang Softball Team clinched consecutive state titles in 2017 and 2018, while the Mustang Baseball Team claimed their first championship in 2018. Furthermore, in 2019, the SHS CX Debate Team earned the distinction of State Runner-up.
Slocum ISD boasts an outstanding FFA (Future Farmers of America) program that stands as a beacon of agricultural excellence within the community. Rooted in the district's rural heritage and commitment to holistic student development, the FFA program empowers students with invaluable skills in agriculture, leadership, and teamwork. Through hands-on experiences, students cultivate a deep understanding of agricultural practices, animal husbandry, and sustainable farming methods. The program not only fosters a passion for agriculture but also nurtures the next generation of agricultural leaders, as evidenced by numerous awards and accolades earned in regional and state competitions. Slocum ISD's FFA program exemplifies the district's dedication to nurturing well-rounded individuals equipped for success in both rural and global contexts.
In recent years, the district has shown a steadfast commitment to enhancing educational quality by:
Providing students with cutting-edge technology on a one-to-one basis (PK-12)
Expanding the concurrent enrollment program for high school students. Half of our juniors and seniors are registered in college classes. Our students have the ability to receive up to 42 hours of college credit.
Slocum ISD takes pride in being a close-knit, family-oriented community where student achievements define success. The school remains dedicated to equipping all students with the skills to become lifelong learners and contributing members of society. Through a curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and proficiency in core subjects such as reading, mathematics, writing, science, and social studies, Slocum ISD upholds its motto of "Excellence in Education" with unwavering commitment.
