Dear Parents, 

Hello!  My name is Alanna Beasley and I will be your child’s second grade teacher this year.  My goal as a teacher is to make sure that your child has a fun, happy, successful, and productive second grade year.  The teacher parent-relationship is very important to me.  I feel that it is my job to keep you informed.  I know that by working together, we are going to have a great year!  Listed below are a few things I would like you to be informed of.  Please read carefully.

Homework/Class work- Home reading is required every night.  It is very important that your child read at home to increase reading fluency and comprehension.  Your child will have spelling, vocabulary, and word list words in their homework folder each week to study.  I expect all work assigned in class to be completed that day.  Because all children do not work at the same pace, those who do not complete an assignment will be required to complete their work during recess or P.E.  There are no point deductions for work that is completed during recess or P.E. 

Homework folder Your child will have a blue homework folder. It will be your child’s responsibility to keep up with this and bring it to school everyday.  Please look through the homework folder with your child.  

Take-home folder  Your child will have a white folder that they bring home once a week with papers they have completed, for you to keep at home.  Please sign and return the folder the next day.

Snack- We will have a snack time each day, in the afternoon.  Your child may bring a healthy snack if he/she chooses.  Please send a bottle of water for your child to keep at his/her desk.  Our water fountains have been changed to refillable water stations. Drinking water is important because it conducts electricity in the brain and causes better retention and retrieval of information.

Parent Participation- Our class will participate in many special activities and celebrations this year.  These activities may require items and supplies brought from home.  I encourage you to attend these functions when possible and to support them by sending needed supplies.  Your support of school activities makes your child feel important and sends the message that you value school.  I will send a note home at the beginning of the week listing any items we need for special activities. 

Wish List- Here are a few things that we would like to have in our classroom: Play Doh, paint, art supplies, and shaving cream (for spelling/word work).  

School begins promptly at 7:40 a.m.; please have your child in the classroom by this time.  After this time, a child will be counted as tardy.  

In closing, I would like to say that I am looking forward to a great year working with your child and I would also like to suggest that you save this letter for future reference. Your help and support will not only make your child more successful in school this year; it will also instill good study and conduct habits that will last a lifetime.   Let’s work together and keep the lines of communication open.  My conference time is from 9:35-10:25 am.
