STRETCHING EXERCISES & ACCOMMODATONS/MODIFICATIONS FOR VOLUNTEERS
As Volunteers work in the Gardens, perhaps a review of the presentations below will help improve our flexibility and add to the enjoyment of volunteering in the gardens!
Dr. Annette Hatala, Occupational Therapy Specialist (and SLG Volunteer) students Abigail Declines, Cassandra Ibarra, Leslie Patterson, and Rochelle Vander Tuig did an excellent job preparing a presentation reminding us how important STRETCHING is before any activity (like gardening). They have prepared a video for SLG Volunteer Association and a presentation (pdf) that you can read through that talks about:
· Exercise & Stretch Preparation
· Environmental/Safety Awareness
· Ladder/Tool Safety
· Proper Body Mechanics (VERY IMPORTANT)
· Adaptive Equipment
· Accommodations/Modifications

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to discuss any concerns you have with the Horticultural Staff at SLG. They are very willing to work with ALL volunteers. They appreciate and welcome volunteers!
