About Us

My Name is Jake Chesney, I was born in Traverse City, MI in 2001 and have lived here ever since. I grew up near Long Lake and like most NM kids, I enjoyed the outdoors A LOT! I was normally either out on the water enjoying the sun or lacing up the skates and shoveling off a rink. I played many sports growing up including T-Ball, Little League, Tennis, Soccer, Football, Lacrosse, Golf and Hockey. By the time I hit Highschool (Traverse City West Senior High) I chose to narrow those down to just two sports, Golf and Hockey. My Freshman- Junior years I was in Student Senate and on Varsity Golf and Hockey. I decided my senior year to withdraw from all sports and pursue my career of being my own boss. I started a local lawn and landscape company called Chesney Exterior in which I had 20+ clients.  At the same time I chose to do a program at school where you could leave early to get credits working in an internship. I chose to Intern at Bay Area Contracting, where I learned many different skills and traits in which come together to build custom homes. I started shadowing in carpentry in which I learned many hands on skills and tricks to achieve expert quality and craftsmanship. After my first year at Bay Area Contracting I was offered a position to stick around and help on a major project underway named Lakemore Resort and Retreat. I was named Property Manager of all Bay Area Contracting and Lakemore Resort and Retreat properties (14+). At this time I was also doing online college classes at NMC in the Business Administrartion Program. After three years of learning what it takes to take on a development role, a framing role, an excavation role, a landscaping role, a pool/ hot tub tech guy role, a irrgation/lawn maintenance role, a hardscapes role, and a manager role I decided to take my skills into my own hands and start Sleeping Bear Services LLC i n July 2022.
