Head Varsity Coach Pat Johnston: 2022 marks Coach Johnston's 9th season as head coach of the Tigers. He hails from Carmel, CA where he was a multi-sport athlete and honor roll student at Carmel High School, where he graduated in 2004.
Over three years as the Varsity QB, Johnston set numerous passing records for Monterey County. Coach Johnston earned Small School All-State honors and was named Mission Trail Athletic League Offensive Player of the Year in 2003.
Coach Johnston went on to play quarterback at Cal Poly from 2004-2008 where he earned his degree in History. He then became an assistant football coach at Cal Poly for five years under head coach Tim Walsh, coaching on defense and special teams. During those 5 years, Johnston coached several all-conference DB's and helped the Mustangs win Conference Championships in 2011 and 2012.
Coach Johnston is married to his wife Meg and they have three beautiful children.
Varsity Special Teams Coordinator and Wide Receiver Coach Sean Gabriel enters his 17th year of coaching and 3rd season with SLOHS Football. Gabriel grew up on the Central Coast of California, and graduated from Morro Bay HS in 2005. He was a dual-sport athlete, playing WR for some of the school’s best football teams to date.
After high school, Gabriel attended Cuesta College and began coaching Varsity and JV football and baseball at MBHS. After coaching 9 years (2006-2014) at his alma mater, he then continued his football coaching career with a 5 year stint (2015-2019) at Templeton HS.
During those 14 years prior to joining SLOHS, Gabriel served as a Varsity WR coach and Special Teams Coordinator, as well as a JV Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator. He also spent 2015 and 2016 as an assistant baseball coach at Cuesta College, and 2017 and 2018 as the head baseball coach at Morro Bay HS, including being awarded the 2016/2017 Morro Bay High School Coach of the Year Award.
