Each year students from nearly every English class at SLOHS will select poems from the official Poetry Out Loud website. In their respective classes they will learn to interpret, understand, and ultimately internalize these pieces of language art. The culminating experience for every student is the class recitation.

For the recitation students will be required to memorize and then recite their poem in front of their peers. Year-after-year SLOHS students proudly tackle this difficult task and year-after-year SLOHS students surpass the expectations of their fellow scholars in their mastery of these powerful words.

Beyond the pride of the accomplishment, students walk away having internalized powerful language.
