Sorry for such a long wait for an update; it's been a super busy year! We've been learning so much in the library and checking out lots of books. Last week, first graders became shelf explorers! Fable the Shelf Mouse helped us learn how to keep the library books in order in this video. Great job, first grade!

Welcome back, Superstars! Can you believe we'll actually be able to go inside the library this school year? I have stacks of brand new books to share with you! I am currently working on putting the library back together after being a storage and classroom space for the past school year, but I'm looking forward to seeing you very soon. If you have any devices or books from last year, please make sure to return them! Have a great first day back!
Mrs. B
This very interesting school year has come to an end! We are collecting all school tech devices (with chargers please!) and any library books that are still out. Please see the flyer for return days and times. Once your account is clear you can choose a free book and yearbook from the PTA! If you have any books or devices out that you cannot find, please let me know so I can mark them as lost.
Thank you and have a great summer!
Mrs. B
It's that time of year: all library books are now due! Please help us get ready for summer by returning any library books you have to the library or office as soon as possible. If you have any books out that you cannot find, please let me know so I can mark them as lost. Thank you!

Now that many of us are back in person, I wanted to remind everyone that even though the library building is closed for book shopping, students and staff can search for books and request them through our online catalog. Requested books will be available for classroom delivery or office pickup for virtual cohorts. Check out our Grab & Go page for all of the info and tutorials!
Also there's still time to watch the California Young Reader Medal nominated read alouds and vote for your favorite ! Primary Category (PEEP-3rd) and PBOR Category (4th-6th). Votes need to be in by March 31st.

It's one of my favorite times of the year for the library: California Young Reader Medal nominated read alouds are available now!
Everything you need to know can be found on these pages:
Once you have watched all of the read alouds in your category, you can vote for your favorite (sorry, no adults get to vote, only kids)!

If you need books for Winter Break, it's the perfect time to take advantage of our Grab & Go Library Book program! Check out our new video to see how it works.
I have also added a new Winter themed read-aloud video with a printable activity.
I hope you have a cozy and restful Winter Break, Superstars. See you in 2021!

I am so excited to start offering Grab & Go Library book check out to our TK-6 students! That's right, you can check out up to 5 real books at a time! Students will not be able to physically enter the library to browse books, but you can browse the library virtually via our online Destiny catalog and request books for pickup. TK-2nd grade families can choose to use Destiny to place holds or can instead complete a book request form.
You will find all of the details on how to request Grab & Go Books on this special page. Happy reading!

Welcome back, Superstars! We're one week into Distance Learning and it has had its challenges, but I'm so impressed with how well our students are doing!
Our school theme for 2020-21 is "All Kinds of SMART," so our first library read aloud of the new school year is about how we are all smart and talented in different ways. Whether you know what kind of smart you are, or you're still figuring it out, I hope you enjoy this story!

Happy end of the school year, Superstars! What a strange way to finish up. I am so proud of our awesome students and families who kept going when faced with so many challenges. Congrats to our 6th graders who are moving on to middle school; we will miss you!
I'm excited to share this read aloud from the amazing author-illustrator Christian Robinson, reading his brand new book, You Matter. He also talks about how he makes his art, and he shows us how to draw a T-Rex! I hope you enjoy it, and I hope you know that you matter; yes, you!

Many families dropped off library books during our student materials pickup day, but we still have hundreds of library books out. If you have library books and you're done with them, you are welcome to drop them off with our fantastic front office staff Monday - Friday, between 10am-2pm. Thank you for your help in getting materials back and ready to enjoy next year!
I've been a busy reading bee so there are many new additions to the read aloud page. Have a suggestion for a book you'd like me to read in a video? Email me!

In case you were curious, here's a look at what my side of read aloud videos look like! My camera crew has been sleeping on the job...
A few more fun read alouds are up, with a pirate hat craft activity after the book Look Out for Litter. Please email me a picture in your pirate hat if you make one!
Also, happy May 4th! Did you dress up for our Star Wars spirit day today? I did!
Mrs. B
Happy Earth Day (and Earth Month)! Three more read alouds are ready for you, including The Curious Garden. In that video you can see our new garden with plants grown by Principal Black's Gardening STEAM class.
Also, a certain mer-brarian has some books to share on that page...
What are your favorite ways to celebrate Earth Day?

Welcome back Superstars, I hope you had a relaxing Spring Break and are enjoying Wide Open School!
There are two new additions to the read aloud section, including an amazing puppet theatre performance of I Want My Hat Back. It makes me want to create my own puppet show. Should that be a future STEAM activity? We also have a new Digital Citizenship page with lots to explore.
Mrs. B
I have added a few new read aloud videos for you to enjoy, with many more in the works. There is also an I Survived chapter book read aloud as well. If you're in the mood for a craft, after the Secret Pizza Party story, you can learn how to make pizza slice ears.
I hope you have a wonderful and relaxing Spring Break!

Our Library website is live! Here is a short update on what I've been up to since we started Virtual Learning and what I'm planning for you!
I hope you are all doing well and staying safe at home. I have recorded 2 read aloud videos which should be up tomorrow.
I miss you, Superstars!
