I grew up in Orange County, California, and moved to San Luis Obispo for my undergraduate degree at Cal Poly SLO. I graduated with a degree in Liberal Studies and a concentration in mathematics. The next year I completed the single subject credential program in mathematics. I had the privilege to be placed here at Laguna Middle School teaching Math 8. It was an amazing experience where I was able to grow and learn as an educator working alongside Mr. Ou.
Besides teaching, two of my favorite hobbies are traveling and hiking. I have always loved to travel and experience new places. With my family, we love going to Mammoth to ski and hike. The summer before my third year at Cal Poly I studied abroad in Reggio Emilia, Italy. During my time in Reggio Emilia, I learned some Italian and a little about Montessori Education. I also spent some time volunteering in Mauritius, an island off the coast of Madagascar. In Mauritius, I taught English to students ages 5 to 15. Through this experience I learned the importance of patience and predetermined explanations when teaching students of all ages. Additionally, in my free time, I love to go on runs around the town to enjoy the different scenery. This last year I completed my first half marathon, and I look forward to completing more in the future.
My hope is that my classroom will provide students with the confidence in and an enthusiasm for mathematics. I will encourage my students to take risks in our classroom and learn from their mistakes. I am so excited for what this year has in store for us!
