Shaw Prize in Mathematical Sciences Introductory Lecture Differential Geometry: Starting from Geometry and Calculus

Our school’s Secondary 4 and 5 students studying Mathematics Extended Part Module 2 went to the Chinese University of Hong Kong on November 3, 2023 to attend the Shaw Prize in Mathematical Sciences introductory lecture. This lecture was given by Professor Li Wenjun, Assistant Professor of the Department of Mathematics at CUHK, who explained the relationship between geometry and calculus. Students took this opportunity to communicate with Professor Li and gain a deeper understanding of differential geometry.

Program for Gifted Students

2023 Summer Poly U Maths Gifted Programme

28 Secondary 3 to Secondary 5 students have completed the Mathematics Gifted Programme organized by the Department of Applied Mathematics of Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Summer 2023.

Students acquired mathematical knowledge beyond the scope of the secondary school curriculum. The programme broadened their horizon and developed their interests. Their thinking skills, creativity and self-directed learning attitudes were strengthened.

Extended Curriculum Activities

S5 Class Activity about Exploration of the Locus of a Moving Point

Class 5B and 5C of our school explore the concept of the locus of a moving point under certain conditions in the extended Mathematics classes.

Competitions

40th CDSC Mathematics Competition

4D Wu Yuen, Wong Chun Hei, 5D Yang Kam Ying, Lau Tsz Fung, 4D Chung King Tsun and 5D Ma Tsz Kit placed fifth in the 40th Diocesan Secondary Schools Mathematics Competition held on 11th May, 2024.

41st HKMO

5D Lau Tsz Fung, Ma Tsz Kit, Yang Kam Ying, Chan Sheung Yeung, Huang Yibin and Kwong Wang Yip participated in Heats of the 41st Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad on 3rd February, 2024.

Yang Kam Ying and Huang Yibin are awarded Third-class Honour Certificate.

The 26th Hong Kong Mathematical High Achievers Selection Contest

3B Tsai Ming Hin, 3D Li Yat Hin, 3C Yip Chun Kin, 3D Ho Shing Hin and 3C Lee Yat Lung participated in the 26th Hong Kong Mathematical High Achievers Selection Contest on 27th January, 2024.

Congratulations to Ho Shing Hin and Li Yat Hin on Second Class Honour, and Tsai Ming Hin and Lee Yat Lung on Third Class Honour!

2023 Sing Yin Secondary School Invitational Mathematics Competition

4D Wong Chun Hei, 4D Wu Yuen, 4D Chung King Tsun and 4C Lai Fung Chun participated in Sing Yin Secondary School Invitational Mathematics Competition on 4th November, 2023.

40th HKMO

5D Wong Ho Fan, 5B Liem Chi Yung, 5B Or King To, 5B Zhou Tak Kai, 5B Wong Wai Kwan and 5D Lam Wai Hong participated in Heats of the 40th Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad on 11th February, 2023.

Zhou Tak Kai is awarded Honorable Mentioned Certificate.

True Light Girls' Invitational Mathematics Contest 2022

4D Ku Wing Tung, 4D Cheung Ngai Po, 4B Kwong Man Yan and 4A Chen Yan Tung participated in True Light Girls' Invitational Mathematics Contest 2022 on 12th November, 2022.

National and National Security Education

Appreciation of Number System

The ‘Number System’ is introduced to the Secondary 4 Mathematics classes during lessons. The teachers also used textbooks1 to share the contributions of different mathematicians in ancient times about the Number System, including Chinese mathematician Qin Jiushao (秦九韶) who used the symbol ‘O’ for zero in his book ‘Mathematical Treatise in Nine Sections (九章算經)’.
