The Season Of Service Period Of Peace, ( SOSPOP), is a school wide project thats goal is to bring awareness to different types of violence. SMILE is a project that is meant to bring awareness to the violence we have against ourselves. 20% of girls in high schools have some form of a depressive episode while 6.8% of boys go through a depressive episode in high school. Most of these cases go undiagnosed do to societal standards which play a big role in the way people see themselves and hoe they feel about themselves. Depression has many different causes, the main causes for depression are:

Abuse: physical and emotional

Certain Medications: Some drugs, such as isotretinoin

Conflict: Depression in someone who has the biological vulnerability

Death or a loss: Sadness or grief from the death or loss of a loved one

Genetics: A family history of depression may increase the risk

Major events.:Even good events such as starting a new job, graduating, or getting married can lead to depression

Other personal problems: Problems such as social isolation due to other mental illnesses or being cast out of a family or social group can contribute to the risk of developing clinical depression.

Serious illnesses: Sometimes depression co-exists with a major illness

Substance abuse: Nearly 30% of people with substance abuse problems also have major or clinical depression
