FAQs

What is the purpose of this SLC site?

This SLC Secondary Literacy Google Site is designed to provide additional support for practitioners working with young people during remote learning. The site gives secondary practitioners practical ideas for the teaching and learning of Literacy in subject areas, focussing on the Broad General Education. Tasks are designed to support learners to develop independence, resilience and high-order literacy skills whilst they are at home and learning takes places remotely using digital platforms.

How is the site organised?

This site is organised into the three areas of Literacy: Reading, Writing, and Listening and Talking. In each area, the Literacy Experiences and Outcomes expand to give examples of tasks and assessments to support Literacy in subject areas.

Who are these tasks aimed at?

The Experiences and Outcomes on this site are Third Level, which is appropriate for most pupils in S1 - S3. You may need to differentiate tasks or success criteria to support all young people. Early, First, Second and Fourth Level Experiences and Outcomes and Benchmarks can be found here: Literacy and Numeracy Benchmarks (Word version) (education.gov.scot)
