The National 4 Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies (RMPS) course is delivered as part of the core Religious Education programme at Holy Cross High School. It is designed to provide pupils with a broad understanding of religion, morality and philosophy, while developing the skills required to engage with contemporary ethical and spiritual issues.
It is a coherent, inclusive, and faith-centred programme that integrates the outcomes of This Is Our Faith with practical engagement in ethical, moral, and philosophical questions.
Delivered across S3 and S4, the course is accessible, inclusive, and engaging, supporting learners of all abilities to achieve success. Pupils are encouraged to explore religious and non-religious worldviews, develop moral reasoning, and participate in faith-based reflection and discussion, aligning with This Is Our Faith outcomes.
Completion of the course supports progression to Senior Phase study, including the option of Higher RMPS, and provides a foundation for further study and engagement in moral, social, and ethical contexts.
Completion of all four units across S3 and S4 results in the full National 4 RMPS qualification.Â
Pupils who do not complete all units are still able to gain unit awards for the components they have successfully completed, ensuring recognition of learning and achievement.
